How to buy a number plate in the UAE

Choose the transaction route before comparing prices. An auction bid, a fixed Buy Now purchase and a private resale have different payment and ownership steps.
1. Record the complete identity and intended use
Write the emirate, code or category, and main number separately. Decide whether you want to own the number, register it on a particular vehicle, or both. A desirable identity does not by itself establish your eligibility to use it.
Start with the Dubai letter-code guide or Abu Dhabi category guide if the listing’s format is unclear.

3. Ask what kind of price evidence supports the offer
Check recent records with the same emirate and digit count, then inspect code, pattern and date differences. An unsold listing is not proof that someone paid that amount. A famous charity sale is not an ordinary-market benchmark.
The price sample and CSV label each record. For auction evidence, use the results archive. A model-only calculator result cannot establish that a seller is overcharging.
4. Separate the plate amount from the buyer’s total
- Write down the negotiated amount or winning bid.
- Check whether VAT is included or added under the chosen terms.
- Identify participation, certificate, transfer and delivery charges that actually apply.
- Track any deposit separately, including whether it is held, refunded or applied under the event’s rules.
A hall-auction deposit is not a universal fee for every UAE plate transaction. Do not borrow the terms of another event or emirate when calculating your purchase total.
5. Confirm ownership and the applicable transfer process

Follow the selected channel’s payment sequence and deadline. Auction and fixed-price purchases can require payment before the ownership document is delivered, so a generic instruction to pay only after document delivery would be misleading.
